Suhaila Workshop - Austin TX
March 27-29, 2009
Limited Enrollment Available
Fifteen full hours with master instructor, performer and choreographer Suhaila Salimpour. To learn more about Suhaila, please visit www.therealsuhaila.com. This is a limited enrollment event - so please register early to secure your spot. This weekend is open to all dancers - no certification required. This weekend is not Level specific and there will not be certification testing of any kind. The weekend will be filled with information and movement in both the Suhaila Salimpour format as well as the Jamila Salimpour format (Sunday morning).

Friday PM - MASTER CLASS
This class will be sure to challenge us all and open our eyes to new possibilities and exciting combinations of layering movement. Previous experience in the Suhaila Salimpour format is a bonus but not required. Sometimes you just have to jump in with both feet.

--Class from 6pm - 9pm
Saturday AM - SUHAILA FORMAT
Experience the Salimpour format concepts and movements via muscular explanation breakdown, drilling and jazz fusion dance movements. Although this is not a certification workshop, students will gain a deeper understanding of her overall format and the possibilities it offers.
--Registration at 9:00am
--Class from 9:30am - 12:30am
Lunch Break 12:30 - 1:30pm

Saturday PM - DRUM SOLO CHOREOGRAPHY
From the mind of Suhaila Salimpour, each choreography is a new exploration of pattern, movement and musical interpretation.

Saturday PM - DINNER AND A SHOW
at Copa Bar and Grill in downtown Austin on Congress Ave. between 2nd and 3rd. Paid parking lot conveniently located behind the club; street parking also available. Doors open 7:00pm
Showtime 7:45pm - 9:45pm
Tickets available at the door $10
Seating on a first come, first served basis. Food and beverages available for purchase (more info TBA on cuisine).

Sunday AM - JAMILA FORMAT BASICS TECHNIQUE AND COMBOS
Jamila Salimpour is the mother of tribal bellydance; her format is the foundation and inspiration for generations of dancers in the US. See footage of Jamila. Learn about the new Jamila Salimpour certification program requirements. Remember to bring your finger cymbals for drills, Folkloric Fusion style!

Sunday PM - LAYERING TAQSEEM CHOREOGRAPHY
You'll never think of a taqseem the same way again! Spend Sunday afternoon learning a choreography with layering options like no other.

Stacey has been teaching belly dance for over 8 years. She is Level 4 certified in the Suhaila Salimpour format and Level 2 certified in the Jamila Salimpour format. All of her classes are based on this technique which starts with a foundation in muscle control, timing and posture and are followed by choreography, performance skills and personal expression.
